An Invitation to Contribute

From the Re/Creation Collective

Since beginning our weekly publication of these dispatches, we have primarily published those within our tight-knit collective. But in the last few weeks, we have continued to grow our circle to include writers from the greater community of justice affected citizens and abolitionists in and around New York. Now, we invite contributions from YOU, our readers, wherever you may be.

The Re/Creation Collective seeks submissions of short, timely essays in the category of Dispatches from the Carceral Apparatus. We are most interested in publishing the voices of currently and formerly incarcerated people, but we also welcome the contributions from the larger justice affected community and allies.

To get an idea of what we publish, please read some of our recent Dispatches from the Carceral Apparatus here.

If you would like to share your writing with us, please email it to publishing@reslashcreation.com

If you do not have access to email, you can mail your work to:

Re/Creation

2900 Purchase St.

Purchase, NY 10577

In your email, please let us know why you think Re/Creation is a good fit for your work and if you have any prior publications—prior publication is not necessary and we would love to be your first, but we want to know if this is the case! If you know someone with Re/Creation, you can also tell us that.

The members of the collective will review your work. If we think your writing is a good fit for Dispatches, one of our members will be in touch to offer feedback and editorial suggestions. You are never obligated to make changes to your writing, but we reserve the right not to publish anything that conflicts with our abolitionist principles or does not fit our current needs.

We are currently able to offer a $25 honorarium for publication.

If you have any questions about this invitation, please feel free to reach out to us by emailing publishing@reslashcreation.com and we will do our best to help! And please spread the word to friends and family who may wish to share their writing with us.

Re/Creation is a non-profit organization created in support of The Re/Creation Creative Collective, a community of writers and artists with a shared vision for abolition and a world free of oppression who support each other to express that vision through creative works.
