A Re/Creation Holiday!
Hey, fam-
It’s now officially the holiday season, and I hope you all are keeping sane in this very different 2020 version. We are still in a global pandemic, and our Re/Creation workshops are still not allowed in the jails, but I was able to participate over the past two months in a series of video seminars with Queensboro Correctional Facility presented by professors from St. John’s, NYU, and Manhattanville College (ßthat’s me!). I’ve meant to send a dispatch on that—it’s coming, hopefully by next week, when my college semester is over!
Our reentry writing workshop is now online, and we’ve been really burnin’ lately. In fact, we have been working on stuff for all y’all! That’s right, we’re opening a Re/Creation Holiday Shop on Bonfire, with limited runs of all of our merchandise we’ve created so far, and a few more swaggy items, including Christmas sweatshirts, face masks, and tote bags!
Also, we’ve created special-edition Christmas cards using the words of our beloved Sonny Jackson and graphics by Prisoner K and others, which can be employed in either (or both!) of these ways:
1. In partnership with Dances for Solidarity, Release Aging People in Prison (RAPP), the New York Campaign for Alternatives to Solitary Cofinement (CAIC), and other organizations, we’ve made a long list of people inside who could use some words of support and encouragement from the outside. If you’d like to send a card (or more than one!) to a person currently serving time, just make a tax-deductible donation to Re/Creation here. For every $10 you donate, we’ll send a personal card to one of the many people inside who can use the cheer.
2. If you’d like any cards for your own collection, just Venmo $10 per card to @reslashcreation or PayPal it to john.proctor@reslashcreation, and we’ll mail you your own with love!
Here are the three card designs:
